What makes a book interesting?
"You cannot open a book without learning something."
-Confucius
My Sister's Keeper is a novel that is known and loved by many. It became popular by people from all ages due to the ability to motivate and inspire. Also the novel makes one truly wonder about life. Due to all the stories, moral, and beliefs that one can learn can impact and change. This book shows how a thing like cancer can affect lives, not only the characters life, however, also the readers.

Through the course of the novel, the reader get introduced to many characters. Each character has their own perspective on each situation, The main character is Anna, went through so much surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can fight her cancer (leukemia) that she had since childhood. Anna is a teenager that decided to find herself instead of being defined by her sister Kate, so she decided to go to court against her parents because she wants to be able to have her own, and to become an independent person.

The plot of My Sister's Keeper is seen as tedious due to the lack of major events. However, what makes this novel  interesting is the way the author adds flashbacks from the past. For example, adding the memory of the time Brian and Sara found out about Kate's Leukemia (pg.39) and what their reactions were. Another example is when Kate's parents decided to have Anna (pg.84). Those situations helps readers have a background that allows them to understand the character lives.

Many believe that what makes a book powerful and inspirational is the ability to spark  questions and arguments. "Why would any parent to that to their child? What does the future hold?" Questions allow readers to become interested and invested in the book. My Sister's Keeper allows question like these to be asked and helps the reader understand what is happening or whats going to happen.

Life is not always fair. This book teaches readers that one needs to fully comprehend that life does not always come with happy ending or happily ever after. In the book Kate felt like a teenage girl (pg 58), and Anna felt like she had a say in her life. However, in a flash their life became a roller coaster and their answer of if they will ever be happy or if they will ever be normal remains forever undetermined and unanswered.

The book showed that people live in a world where labels are thrown around like names. The people in the society that the Fitzgerald'd lived in had a reaction when they found out that Anna was genetically altered. Readers that read the book would also feel the same way because it is found unusual in the eyes of society because it ruins the meaning of life.

In conclusion, the author did a magnificent job of showing the meaning of life, and showing what parents would do to save the life of their child. In the book, there is a lot of moral, and ethical issues however, to a reader, and writer these issues capture the attention of an audience.
